Structural Engineering

We like to think that a building is like a person: beauty is only skin deep, and like that person a healthy building needs good bones. If your project involves any works to these bones, no matter how small, your approved building inspector will require structural calculations and details or at least a structural statement (as is required also for some planning applications which involved significant structural works, e.g. retrospective basements or significant nearby trees) to prove that your works will be structurally sound.

4 Point Plans's engineers are sufficiently qualified and professionally indemnified to handle in house any calculations and details that you might require to accompany a building control application or during the course of construction. We can complete the structural design and specification with a suite of calculations, plans, and details as part of our full design works package or as a standalone service if you already have detailed building plans.

Where needs be, as part of our service we can check the validity of your architectural design with a site visit, consultation, and survey, or if you so wish you can email or post us the drawings and/or CAD files for fleshing out with the required structural information.

Designed Special Foundations

New structure in weak, stepped, or sloping ground? Large trees or drains nearby that can't be (re)moved? We can design the sub structure and foundations to bridge any problem.

Minor Works to Existing Walls

Taking out and an internal load bearing wall, or installing new doors in an external wall? We can liaise with your builder to provide the steel or lintel calculations and specification.

New Structures

Straightforward construction or something grand with vaulted ceilings, composite timber and steel frames, suspended flying walls or even roofs and hanging doors that seem to defy gravity? We've got it covered.
