Building Regulations

Depending on your works you might not need planning approval, especially if there are no changes to the exterior, however you will need building control approval to ensure your works comply with national building regulations for all but the most minor works.

Since the UK has some of the most extensive and comprehensive building regulations in the world, which are often updated to comply with new government targets on energy efficiency, for instance, and in light of such tragedies such as that which befell Grenfell tower, dealing with them can be a very complicated task if you don't know what you're doing. Many architectural designers don't concern themselves with building regulations and subsequently they neglect critical areas like fire escape routes and basic structural requirements. These things often can't be solved easily without redesign or expensive build solutions.

Fortunately, we know exactly what we are doing and since we have considered already all the building regulations - as well as the structural implications of any works - during the architectural design stage, there won't be any nasty surprises for you at this stage.

As part of our service we provide a comprehensive package of drawings and a specification to cover all the applicable building regulations, which also act as the basis for a detailed quote and tender from your shortlisted building contractors, and as with our planning service we act as agent and advocate for all queries to push through approval of your project.
